Runnymede Borough Council has completed the acquisition of 13 new affordable homes at Cala Homes’ Maple Croft development on Thorpe Lea Road, Egham.
The Council will take ownership of 10 one-and-two-bedroom apartments and three two-bedroom terraced houses at Cala’s development. All the homes will be available through Affordable Rent for local people and will be managed and maintained by the Council.
These new, energy efficient affordable homes feature a modern specification and will come equipped with electric vehicle charging points and air source heat pumps.
52 all-electric homes are being built overall at Maple Croft, delivering 28 one-and-two-bedroom apartments and 24 two-three-and four-bedroom houses. Additional renewable technologies including solar panels and rainwater harvesting will also be available on selected private sale homes.
Cllr Mike Smith, Chair of the Housing Committee, said:
“Securing more affordable homes is one of the most important things we can do for our residents. Too many local people are priced out of the housing market, and the Council has a responsibility to step in where it can. These homes will provide safe and modern places to live, but more than that, they will give people the stability to put down roots, plan for their futures and feel part of their community.
“This scheme demonstrates our commitment to using our resources wisely and making decisions that benefit people today, while also leaving a positive legacy for the generations that follow. This is just one example of the work we are doing to address local housing need and create a fairer, more sustainable borough.”
Freddie Webber, Managing Director, Cala Homes (Thames), added:
“We’re proud to be working in partnership with Runnymede Borough Council to deliver high-quality, sustainable affordable housing in Egham. Construction is now underway on the 13 new homes, which we look forward to handing over to the council in spring 2026, ready for residents to make their own.
“Our commitment to the local community goes beyond building homes. Through our Community Pledge, we’re pleased to continue supporting the charities and organisations that matter most to Egham residents.”
Cala has implemented its Community Pledge at the development; a series of commitments above and beyond legal planning requirements to deliver positive, measurable social impact for the local communities in which it builds homes. At Maple Croft, these contributions include a £5,000 sponsorship of Egham Cricket Club for the 2024 season to cover junior training sessions and five additional coaches.
Cala will also be delivering its Urban Wildlife Strategy, introducing a range of measures to support and protect wildlife on site, including bird nesting features, hedgehog highways, invertebrate bricks, bat boxes and native tree planting.
The first private sale homes at Maple Croft will be available from early 2026. To find out more visit: www.cala.co.uk/maplecroft
