SBS Awarded Major Whole-House Retrofit Contract by PA Housing

PRINCIPAL retrofit contractor Sustainable Building Services Ltd (UK) Ltd (SBS) has been awarded a major new retrofit contract by PA Housing, delivering a comprehensive energy efficiency upgrade programme across more than 3,000 properties spanning the south of England and the midlands.

Established in 1976, SBS is a multi-award-winning principal contractor currently delivering projects with a combined value of over £200 million, generating approximately 50,000,000 kWh per year in household energy savings.

Steve Roberts, regional director at SBS, said:
“We’re thrilled to begin working with PA Housing, one of the foremost providers of housing services in the country.

“At SBS we never lose sight of our guiding motivation: the people whose houses we want to help improve. These upcoming retrofit works will be led by residents’ real needs – designed to reduce their energy bills and ensure their future comfort and wellbeing.”

That resident-first approach will be reflected in the breadth of the programme itself. Over the next four years, SBS will upgrade thousands of PA Housing’s homes to EPC band C or above through works encompassing external, internal and cavity wall insulation; flat roof and loft insulation; solar panels; window and door replacements; and ventilation upgrades.

PA Housing – otherwise known as Paragon Astra Housing – owns more than 23,000 homes across the midlands, London and south east, making it one of the country’s leading providers of housing services.

SBS has been appointed to the project via Fusion 21’s Whole House Decarbonisation procurement framework, and it will be delivered through the Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund Wave 3 with additional support via client funding.

This places the programme at the centre of the UK government’s ambition to decarbonise five million homes by 2030, as set out in the Warm Homes Plan published in January. All housing upgrades will be installed to the latest PAS 2030:2023 and MCS standards, ensuring high quality, energy efficient installation and full compliance with DESNZ (Department of Energy Security and Net Zero) requirements.

Roberts added: “This is a pivotal contract for SBS, as we continue our growth across the south and the midlands. It is indicative of our capability to lead large-scale, high-quality retrofit programmes wherever they are needed most – and this contract puts us at the heart of an exciting new chapter for retrofit in multiple regions.”
