Housing partnership delivers energy efficiency upgrades

The Matrix Housing Partnership, a consortium of seven housing associations, has delivered energy efficiency upgrades to 435 social homes across the Midlands and South West England.

The Matrix Housing Partnership is comprised of GreenSquareAccord (GSA), Black Country Housing Group, Citizen Housing Group, Pioneer Housing and Community Group, Rooftop Housing Association, Trent and Dove Housing and Trident Housing Association.

The partnership has worked together to upgrade more than 430 social homes so that they achieve an energy performance certificate (EPC) of C at minimum through a variety of retrofit and decarbonisation works. These include installing air source heat pumps, solar PV, cavity and external wall insulation, new windows and doors, loft insulation and other measures to improve ventilation.

Ruth Cooke, Chair of the Matrix Housing Partnership and Chief Executive of GSA said: “I am proud to say the Matrix Decarbonisation Project is on track to hit halfway milestone later this month. By working together, we have delivered EPC upgrades to 435 homes across the communities we serve.

“This has been achieved through our unique consortium model which has allowed us to pool our resources at the bidding stage and share best practice during the project.

“We have delivered direct benefits to our customers who will be able to see reductions in their fuel bills and enjoy a warmer living space.”

In March 2023, the partnership secured £12million in funding from the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ); which manages the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund, to help make 909 homes across the Midlands and South West more energy efficient.

GSA Customer, Dennis, who lives in Bloxwich and has had his home upgraded through the Matrix Decarbonisation Project said: “The new windows, doors and air-source heat pump which have been installed have been fantastic. Our home is much warmer which has been fantastic throughout the winter.”
