FireAngel launches new Connected Homes proposition in partnership with Mears at Housing 2019

One of the UK’s leading manufacturers of home safety products, FireAngel Safety Technology, showcased its latest fire protection system in partnership with national housing and social care provider, Mears Group, at this year’s Chartered Institute of Housing’s annual event, Housing 2019.

FireAngel’s intelligent and innovative fire protection technology, FireAngel Connect, has been designed in partnership with Mears to provide tenants across its 700,000 UK properties with a bespoke connective management system that revolutionises the standards of fire safety.

The cloud-based management system has been developed to enable continuous monitoring of appliances and smart devices within domestic properties via a central, cloud-based system. This allows Mears to monitor and manage FireAngel smoke, heat and CO alarms remotely, while individuals can review important fire and safety information relating to their property, report service issues and schedule an appointment with a Mears’ maintenance professional if required via a wall mounted SmartPanel.

The FireAngel Connect system also feature FireAngel’s unique, patent pending, predictive algorithm, FireAngel Predict™, which uses cloud-based technology alongside predictive algorithms and data from homes to identify properties with an increased risk of fire in real time. This has been designed to enable appropriate action to be taken ahead of a potential fire event happening.

Nick Rutter, founder of FireAngel and Chief Product Officer, along with Ian Watson, Purchasing and Procurement Director for Mears and Adam Hunt, Business Transformation and Technology Director for Mears, discussed their partnership as part of the ‘Fire Safety: Implications for Asset Management’ seminar on the closing day of the event.

The one hour session outlined how FireAngel and Mears are working together to provide its landlords with a new smart-home solution that enables them to proactively manage fire risk, while simultaneously giving tenants greater control over fire safety and maintenance of their homes.

Nick Rutter, said:

“Our patented technology will transform the way in which it protects its residents. As a business, we have over five years’ experience in connecting fire safety devices to the internet, which has enabled us to offer Mears our FireAngel Predict offering as a completely uniquesolution that will further improve the level of protection they provide.”

Installation of FireAngel’s SmartPanel is currently being completed across a significant proportion of properties within Mears’ portfolio, with engineers working closely with tenants to explain the smart technology and the safety benefits it provides.

Ian Watson, said:

“For us, the safety of our residents is of paramount importance. We are always looking for innovative ideas that make a difference to our communities and this partnership with Fire Angel is an excellent demonstration of how we can use technology to keep people safe.

“The open and secure platforms enhances our service offering via an independent technology backbone that provides our landlords with a complete digital paper trail on the status and performance of all smoke, heat and carbon monoxide alarms installed throughout their properties.

“The solution has been designed to enable people and technology, especially those that don’t traditionally engage with it, to live in a safer and more enjoyable environment.”
