Taking care of our homes in-house

From April 2017, Sovereign’s in-house maintenance teams will carry out responsive repairs, gas servicing and work to get empty properties ready for new residents for all of our 56,000 homes.

Sovereign Response and Spectrum Property Care, a wholly owned commercial subsidiary, will expand their services across the south and south west, taking on all repairs as well as continuing our record of 100% gas servicing compliance.

Bringing our property services in-house is one of the ways that Sovereign is realising the benefits of the merger with Spectrum Housing Group. It’s expected that bringing more of our maintenance services in-house will save the business around £2m over the next five years.

Steve Barford, Sovereign’s Executive Director Property, said:

“Sovereign will now provide in-house repairs, gas servicing and voids work to all of our 56,000 homes.

“Taking greater responsibility for these important activities is a key part of our plans to provide a consistent service for all our residents as well as bringing down costs, reinvesting the savings into new much-needed affordable homes and services.

From April 2017:

  • Sovereign Response will take over voids work, getting empty homes ready for new residents, in Hampshire from Kingfisher Building Services.
  • Spectrum Property Care will provide routine maintenance and gas servicing to Sovereign’s 4,000 homes in Devon, taking over from Jones Building Group.

As well as creating new jobs, many of the employees from our former partners Kingfisher Building Services and Jones Building Group have also transferred to Sovereign.

Steve said:

“I’d like to thank our contractors, Kingfisher Building Services and Jones Building Services, for taking care of our homes and residents for so many years. I wish them all the best for the future and I’d also like to welcome our new employees who are starting a new career with us at Sovereign.”
